When Live & Dangerous was initially released in 1978, the album spent the best part of three months in the UK top ten and was only denied the top spot by one of the best-selling albums of all time, the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. However, Visconti had only had a small window in his schedule, so Lizzy’s leader Philip Lynott came up with the idea that they spend two weeks together compiling a live album instead. The band had enjoyed massive success with that record and was keen to work with him again. Released in 1978, just as the hot streak starting with 1975s Fighting and running through 1977s came to an end, Live and Dangerous was a glorious way to celebrate Thin Lizzys glory days and one of the best double live LPs of the 70s. But this soldier of fortune he will carry on He will carry on when all hope is gone He will carry on He's trained to kill and kill he will As we march along Singing just another soldier song Just another soldier song I am a soldier of fortune Destined to keep on marching I can hear the pipers calling I am a soldier of fortune Destined to keep.
